Rugs ordered in standard sizes and colorways as shown on our product pages are eligible for return within 14 days of delivery in original condition. Rugs ordered with any customization are final sale.

Square wool area rugs in modern designs — hand-knotted and hand-tufted in premium New Zealand wool by master artisans in Bhadohi, India. Available from accent scale through room-scale formats, made to order in any square dimension. Shop by size: 6x6, 8x8, 9x9, 10x10, and beyond.

Square Rugs: Geometry as a Design Choice

Most rooms get rectangular rugs by default. A square rug is a different kind of decision — one made because the room, the table, or the arrangement calls for it specifically. Square rooms read better with square rugs. Square dining tables are anchored more naturally by a square rug than by a rectangle that extends unevenly in two directions. Conversation groupings arranged symmetrically around a central piece of furniture — a coffee table, a fire, a focal point — find their center more clearly under a square rug than under a proportionally elongated one.

Square Sizing for Dining and Living Rooms

For a square dining table, the rug should extend at least 24 inches beyond the table edge on all sides so chairs remain on the rug when pulled out. A 4-person square table at 36 inches across needs at minimum a 7x7 rug; a larger 6-person square table at 48 inches across is better served by an 8x8 or 9x9. For a living room, the square format works most naturally in rooms that are themselves roughly square — a 10x10 or 12x12 room reads better with a square rug than with a standard 8x10 that leaves uneven borders.
