More Shapes

In runner form, Temple Steps turns its stacked bars into a geometric rug with a long, rhythmic climb that suits a hallway, an entry, or the side of a bed. The rounded bars layer one above the next and scallop along the edge, so the narrow shape reads as a slow ascent rather than a plain strip. This piece stays in a quiet grayscale: pale gray and silver bands alternate with charcoal and black, with painterly streaks washing across to soften the geometry. The proportions keep the steps reading clearly even at length. Designed in New York and hand-tufted in Bhadohi, India, it is made from 100% New Zealand wool with a 0.75 inch pile that gives each bar its soft, sculptural depth. Made to order in any size or color, including the precise length your corridor needs, across over 1,200 wool colors. Each runner is ready in 2 to 3 weeks and ships free worldwide, duties included.

New Zealand wool is naturally stain-resistant and springs back underfoot — footprints and furniture marks lift rather than settling in. It also takes dye deeply, which is what gives the colors their depth. Some initial shedding is normal and settles within the first few weeks. Why New Zealand wool →

Care: Shedding is normal and will lessen over time. Vacuum regularly with the beater bar set to the highest setting. If loose ends appear, clip with scissors (do not pull). Rotate periodically for even wear. Blot spills with a clean, white cloth (do not rub). Professional cleaning only. See our rug care guide for more tips.

Shipping: Tufted rugs are handmade to order and typically take 2–3 weeks to produce and dispatch. Once shipped, delivery takes 3–5 business days via DHL Express. We offer complimentary worldwide shipping on all rugs.

Returns: Rugs may be returned within 15 days of delivery. A restocking fee may apply. Read our return policy for full details.

Sizing a Geometric Runner Rug for a Hallway

A runner has one job a wider rug does not: it has to fit the length of the space it serves, leaving a consistent margin of floor on either side. Temple Steps works well here because its stacked, scalloped bars give a long, narrow run something to do, carrying the eye forward step by step rather than down an empty strip. In a hallway, aim for a few inches of bare floor at each end and along the sides so the rug reads as deliberate. At a bedside or galley kitchen, the climbing bars draw the path through the room.

Hand-tufting builds the runner's texture. Artisans in Bhadohi set New Zealand wool through a backing by hand, then carve and shear each band so it stands in soft relief against the next. That depth is what keeps a long, repeating form from flattening out.
