Rustic Rugs: What the Word Should Actually Mean
The best rustic rooms aren't decorated — they're built from materials that are genuinely what they appear to be: wood that has been worked and worn by use, stone that has been quarried and set, textiles that have been made by hand from natural fiber. The rustic quality in those rooms comes from the materials and the making.
Jubi's rustic rugs are handwoven by master artisans in Bhadohi, India, in premium New Zealand wool. The warmth and earthiness that makes a rug feel rustic comes from the wool itself: the natural variation in color across a dyed pile, the slight irregularity of a hand-knotted or hand-tufted surface, the depth that natural fiber carries in the way it holds and reflects light. The Burnt Orange and Cream Shag Hand-Knotted Wool Rug is the most tactilely rustic piece in the collection — the combination of warm, earthy color and high pile creates exactly the kind of honest material presence that rustic interiors are built around.
Rustic Palette and Pattern Across the Jubi Collection
Rustic interiors work in a specific palette: terracotta, burnt orange, chestnut, cream, warm olive, deep burgundy — the colors of natural materials left mostly as they are. The Burnt Orange Hand-Tufted Wool Rug, Burnt Orange Round Hand-Tufted Wool Rug, and Terracotta Block Hand-Tufted Wool Rug sit directly in that palette — warm, saturated, grounded. The Chestnut Octagon Link Hand-Knotted Wool Rug brings deep, warm brown in a geometric format that reads as both structured and earthen.
For pattern with a rustic quality, the Fieldwork Hand-Tufted Wool Rug and Orlo Hand-Tufted Wool Rug bring geometric form in warm, muted tones that feel worked rather than designed. The Sunset Mosaic Arch Hand-Tufted Wool Rug brings arched, mosaic-inspired pattern in warm gold and terracotta that references the hand-decorated surfaces of rustic architecture. The Burgundy Checkered Hand-Tufted Wool Rug brings the checkered form in deep, rustic color — a pattern simple enough to feel honest.
Rustic Rugs With Natural Materials
A rustic rug works best in a room where everything else is also genuinely what it appears to be. Reclaimed wood, hand-plastered walls, wrought iron, natural stone, woven linen — these are the materials that amplify a rustic rug rather than contradicting it. In that context, a premium handwoven wool rug in warm earth tones doesn't just look right; it completes the material story of the room.
Explore earth tone rugs for the full warm palette range, or natural rugs for the material story behind Jubi's wool collection. Every Jubi rustic rug is available in custom sizes, shapes, and colorways — through the online customizer or directly with our studio.
