Terracotta and sand-colored wool form a bold honeycomb pattern cut into an irregular silhouette. Sculptural and warm, the rug feels grounded yet graphic in any interior.
Inspiration Behind the Design

The design was drawn from the natural geometry of honeycombs, with their repeating cells and soft-edged structure. I wanted the rug to feel connected, playful, and alive in a space while still providing the grounding effect of a strong pattern. The irregular outline kept it from becoming too rigid, giving it a sense of movement and approachability.

Design Development
The first studies leaned sharper, closer to a pure grid. As the design progressed, the edges softened, introducing a hand-drawn quality that made each cell feel individual. When adapting the rug to larger sizes such as 8x10 or 9x12, the pattern wasn’t simply scaled but expanded with additional cells, ensuring the proportions and energy of the design remained consistent across dimensions.
Craft and Process

The Honeycomb Rug is crafted in Bhadohi, India, a place long regarded as the world’s rug capital. Here, artisans trained across generations handle every stage of creation: dyeing New Zealand wool, preparing the loom, tufting each form, and finishing the carved outlines. Each rug is made to order, scaled carefully to size, and completed within two to three weeks. The result is a piece that balances precision with the hand of the maker.
Color and Texture

Hand-tufting allows the honeycomb shapes to appear crisp while keeping the pile plush. The outlines are carved to add depth between each cell, catching light and shadow for subtle dimension. The cut follows the honeycomb form itself, giving the rug an irregular shape that feels sculptural and intentional.
The palette of terracotta and beige is deliberately grounded. It recalls honey, clay, and earth, making the rug adaptable across styles — pairing naturally with wood and stone, yet standing alone as a striking patterned rug.
Styling the Rug
Scaled down to a 3x5 or 4x6, the rug works beautifully as a focal accent — slipped under a lounge chair, layered into an entryway, or combined with a larger neutral ground. At statement sizes like 8x10 or 9x12, it anchors the living room or dining space with its strong geometry and warm tone. The honeycomb outline offers a retro inflection while remaining unmistakably modern, giving it versatility across interiors from minimalist to mid-century.
