In runner length, Boxstep is a plaid rug whose fine grid marches the eye down a hallway, small squares repeating end to end so the narrow strip stays lively from threshold to threshold. Each square is framed by a fine double line, a stitched run beside a solid run in pale cream, on a forest green field and a low pile that takes foot traffic in stride. A runner is the format for halls, galley kitchens, and the long run beside a bed. Designed in New York and hand-knotted in Bhadohi, India, it is made from durable New Zealand wool with a 0.5 inch pile that keeps the grid sharp knot by knot. Offered in Black and Brown, it is made to order in the length your space needs and any of over 1,200 wool colors. Each runner is ready in 5 to 6 weeks and ships free worldwide, duties included.

Choosing a Plaid Runner Rug for a Hallway

A plaid runner rug brings rhythm to the longest, plainest stretches of a home. Boxstep's fine grid suits the format because the small, repeating squares carry the eye smoothly along the runner's length, giving a corridor pattern and movement without crowding it. For a hallway, leave a few inches of floor on each side so the runner looks intentional, and choose a length that stops short of the baseboards at both ends rather than running wall to wall. The same logic works in a galley kitchen, where a runner softens a hard floor and stands up to spills, or alongside a bed, where it catches the first step of the morning. Because the grid repeats evenly, you can cut the runner to almost any length and the pattern still resolves cleanly. The chocolate brown and cream palette hides everyday wear well in these high-traffic zones, staying handsome between cleanings. Hand-knotting matters here: each knot is tied by hand, keeping the double lines crisp underfoot, and the firm low pile holds up to constant passage year after year.
