A geometric runner rug works hardest in the spaces a room-size rug skips: hallways, galley kitchens, the long side of a kitchen island. The repeating lattice of Octagon Link suits this format well, because the linked octagons give the eye a steady rhythm to follow down the length of the run rather than a single centered motif. For a hallway, leave a few inches of floor on each side and at both ends so the runner reads as intentional, and choose a length that stops short of any doorway swing. In a kitchen, a runner laid along the working aisle keeps the pattern continuous between counter and island.
Hand-knotting makes the long format durable. Each knot is tied by hand and trimmed to a low, dense pile, which is exactly the construction that holds up to repeated foot traffic while keeping the octagons and their connecting lines crisp from end to end, even on the longest runs.
