As a runner, Brown Tan Checkered Grid is a brown and tan checkered rug drawn out into a long, rhythmic column: rows of warm caramel-tan and deep brown-black squares run end to end, each one filled with tiny ladder-like dashes that keep the surface moving from one end to the other. The earthy two-tone palette grounds a floor rather than brightening it, and the repeating grid gives a long, narrow shape a steady cadence without overwhelming it. Designed in New York and hand-knotted in Bhadohi, India, it is made from 100% New Zealand wool with a 0.5 inch pile, a dense, fine, durable surface that stands up to the steady foot traffic a runner sees. Hand-knotting keeps the small dashes crisp along the full length. Made to order in any size, so the runner can be matched to the exact length of a hallway, a galley kitchen, or the strip beside a bed. Each piece is ready in 5 to 6 weeks and ships free worldwide, duties included.

Construction: Hand-knotted

Material: 100% New Zealand wool

Dimensions: Standard sizes available online, with fully custom sizes on request

Pile Height: 0.5"

Origin: Handmade in Bhadohi, India — a region renowned for fine carpet weaving

New Zealand wool is naturally stain-resistant and springs back underfoot — footprints and furniture marks lift rather than settling in. It also takes dye deeply, which is what gives the colors their depth. Some initial shedding is normal and settles within the first few weeks. Why New Zealand wool →

Care: Shedding is normal and will lessen with use. Vacuum regularly on a high-pile setting. Clip loose ends with scissors (do not pull). Rotate periodically for even wear. Blot spills immediately with a clean, white cloth (do not rub). Professional cleaning recommended.

See our rug care guide for more tips.

Gorgeous, unique rugs. Fabulous service

I'm an interior designer and was looking for "healthy home" rug options for an adventurous client with environmental sensitivities. Jubi has been an incredible resource for lush, colorful, clean rugs and runners. Cassie has been a dream to work with, even helped me fix my own error. I cannot recommend them enough.

Our Picks for You

Sizing a Checkered Rug Runner for a Hallway

A runner lives or dies by its length, and a checkered rug makes that easy to judge: the repeating grid gives you a built-in measure, so you can let the squares run nearly the full corridor while leaving a few inches of floor at each end. For a hallway, aim to keep that margin even on both sides and centered down the width, so the rhythm of the tan and dark brown squares reads as deliberate rather than cut off. Brown Tan Checkered Grid carries its tiny ladder-like dashes the entire length, which keeps a long, narrow run from feeling empty in the middle.

Hand-knotting earns its place here. Each knot is tied by hand into a dense, low, firm pile, the kind of durable surface that takes daily passage in a corridor or kitchen and holds its detail rather than matting.
