Undula Hand-Tufted Wool Rug

Undula is a rug shaped by rhythm. Its curves echo the rise and fall of landscapes and the shifting of light across water, creating a design that feels like movement caught mid-flow. Sculptural yet soft, it holds the room without overwhelming it.

Inspiration Behind the Design

Undula began with a series of sketches studying how natural forms ripple and shift — the contours of hillsides, the way water bends around edges, and how shadows stretch across curved surfaces. The intention was always to capture stillness with dimension, creating a piece that feels alive even at rest.

As the design developed, the silhouette evolved beyond its original restraint. By testing different stripe layers and refining their spacing, the rug found its visual rhythm. The final form embraces its sculptural potential, balancing fluid edges with carefully calibrated depth.

Craft and Process

Each Undula rug is handcrafted in Bhadohi, India, the rug capital of the world. Our team of artisans, many from generations of master weavers, dye the wool, prepare the loom, and hand-tuft the rug from start to finish. Once tufted, the surface is hand-carved to emphasize its sculptural ridges and irregular silhouette.

Made from 100% New Zealand wool, Undula holds crisp carving while remaining soft and luxurious underfoot. The design can be scaled to any size, from compact accent rugs to expansive area pieces, without losing its character. Every rug is made to order, ensuring no waste and a production process that typically takes 2–3 weeks before it ships.

Color and Texture

The Undula palette shifts between layered teal and blue, evoking coastal tones and natural horizons. Hand-tufting was chosen for its ability to capture both the sculpted silhouette and the intricacy of the carved contours. Between each ripple, artisans carve by hand, introducing subtle shadow lines that shift as the light moves across the surface.

Slight variations in pile height between carved and uncarved areas add a tactile rhythm. The wool’s density allows the curves to remain crisp while still offering softness, making Undula as inviting to touch as it is to look at.

Styling the Rug

Undula is designed as a sculptural focal point. It anchors a living room beautifully, especially when paired with neutral furniture, curved seating, or textured accents that echo its fluidity. In a bedroom, it creates a grounding presence that invites rest, while beneath a dining table it becomes a statement piece that frames the furniture above it.

Available in sizes like 5x8, 8x10, and 9x12, it adapts to both compact apartments and open living spaces. Its irregular silhouette adds flexibility: rotating the rug allows different curves to frame furniture and architectural features in new ways.

At Jubi, irregular shapes are always designed with purpose. Each one is meant to frame a room thoughtfully, enhancing how furniture sits within it, rather than chasing novelty for its own sake.
