Wool rugs for kitchen floors — in hand-knotted and hand-tufted constructions that hold up to the most demanding floor in the house. Available across geometric, striped, checkered, and solid directions in runner, round, and area rug formats. Every design available in custom sizes.
Kitchen Rugs: The Floor That Works Hardest Deserves the Best Material
The kitchen floor takes more abuse than any other surface in a home. Spills, foot traffic, dropped objects, the continuous compression of standing at a counter — a kitchen rug has to handle all of that while continuing to look right and feel good underfoot. Premium New Zealand wool handles those conditions well: the natural lanolin in the fiber repels liquid spills rather than absorbing them, giving you time to blot before a spill becomes a stain. The fiber's natural resilience means it springs back from the compression of standing rather than permanently flattening. A Jubi kitchen rug holds its surface quality through years of daily use. All handwoven by master artisans in Bhadohi, India.
Runners: The Counter and Island Zone
A runner is the right format for the long, narrow floor zone in front of a counter, range, or island. The Interval Hand-Knotted Wool Runner and Honey Octagon Link Hand-Knotted Wool Runner are hand-knotted — the most durable construction available, appropriate for the highest-traffic kitchen placements. The Red Octagon Link Hand-Knotted Wool Runner brings the octagon link pattern in a warm, saturated red.
In hand-tufted runners, the Clay Tile Hand-Tufted Wool Runner, Relay Striped Hand-Tufted Wool Runner, Harlequin Hand-Tufted Wool Runner, and Burgundy Checkered Hand-Tufted Wool Runner bring a range of patterns and colorways suited to different kitchen aesthetics. The Orchard Hand-Tufted Wool Runner brings a botanical-inspired design and the Classic Color Block Hand-Tufted Wool Runner brings graphic color blocking in a clean, modern direction.
Rounds and Area Rugs: The Table Zone
A kitchen with a dining table or eat-in area calls for a different format. Under a round table, a round rug mirrors the table's geometry and defines the dining zone within the larger kitchen floor — the round collection covers every design in a circular format. Under a rectangular table, a small area rug — typically a 4x6 or 5x8 depending on table size and chair clearance — does the same work. The standard guidance applies: extend the rug 24 inches past the table edge on all sides so chairs remain on the rug when pulled out.
Sizing a Kitchen Rug
For counter and island runners: position the runner to cover the active standing zone and leave a few inches of floor visible at each end rather than running it edge to edge. Standard runner widths for kitchens are typically 24 to 30 inches; length depends on the counter run. For table placements: a round rug should extend past the table edge with enough clearance for chairs on all sides — typically 24 inches. The same applies for a rectangular area rug under a kitchen table. For dimensions that don't conform to standard sizes, every Jubi kitchen rug is available in custom dimensions through the bespoke program.
