Placing a Scalloped Round Rug Under a Table
A scalloped round rug works best when its diameter is read in full, so placement matters more than with a rectangle. Under a circular dining table, Undula's rippling edge should clear the chairs even when they are pulled out, which usually means a rug roughly four feet wider than the table so the scalloped border stays whole. In a seating area, center it so the open sage middle sits under the coffee table and the cool outer bands reach toward the furniture, drawing the group inward.
Hand-tufting gives the concentric curves their depth. Artisans set New Zealand wool through a stretched foundation by hand, then carve each band so it stands just proud of the next, holding the ripple across a wide circular field. That carved relief is difficult in a flat weave, which is why the technique suits a round form built on layered motion.
