How to Place an Arch Rug
An arch rug like Portico is shaped to mark a spot rather than fill a grid, so it rewards placement over coverage. The curved top gives it a clear orientation, which makes it a natural fit at the foot of a bed, inside an entryway, or at the base of a reading nook where the arch can point into the room. Set the flat edge against a wall or a console and let the curve open toward the floor, so the gateway motif reads the way it was drawn. Because the gold center is carved a half step deeper than the cream frame, the surface catches light along the arch, rewarding a spot where daylight crosses it.
Hand-tufting is what gives the form that relief. Working from the back of a stretched canvas, artisans set New Zealand wool through the foundation by hand, then shear and carve the surface so the gold gateway stands apart from its border.
