Four matched sides give Gridline's hand-drawn grid something to work against: the black lines of this square geometric rug wander and change weight as they cross the wool, and the cells, wider than they are tall, come out a little different from one another, so a sketched order sits inside a tidy outline. In green or rust, the black keeps its hand on both. A square centers a space, under a coffee table, beneath a round dining table, or across a bedroom floor. Designed in New York and hand-knotted to order in our Bhadohi studio in India. It is made from 100% New Zealand wool with a 0.5 inch pile, low and dense, so each drawn line keeps its edge and chair legs sit level. Made to order in any size and in either colorway, from a small square to one that fills a room. Each rug is ready in 5 to 6 weeks and ships free worldwide, duties included.

Construction: Hand-knotted

Material: 100% New Zealand wool

Dimensions: Standard sizes available online, with fully custom sizes on request

Pile Height: 0.5"

Origin: Handmade in Bhadohi, India — a region renowned for fine carpet weaving

New Zealand wool is naturally stain-resistant and springs back underfoot — footprints and furniture marks lift rather than settling in. It also takes dye deeply, which is what gives the colors their depth. Some initial shedding is normal and settles within the first few weeks. Why New Zealand wool →

Care: Shedding is normal and will lessen with use. Vacuum regularly on a high-pile setting. Clip loose ends with scissors (do not pull). Rotate periodically for even wear. Blot spills immediately with a clean, white cloth (do not rub). Professional cleaning recommended.

See our rug care guide for more tips.

Shipping: Knotted rugs are handmade to order and typically ship within 5–6 weeks. Once dispatched, delivery takes 3–5 business days via DHL Express. We offer complimentary worldwide shipping on all rugs.

Returns: Rugs may be returned within 15 days of delivery with a 15% restocking fee. Custom rugs are final sale, except in cases of shipping damage. Read our return policy for full details.

Our Picks for You

Orienting a Square Geometric Rug

A square geometric rug looks the same from every wall only when its pattern has no direction. Gridline has one. Its cells run wider than they are tall, so the grid carries a horizontal grain, and a quarter turn changes how a room reads it. Laid with the long side of each cell facing the main seating, the grid stretches the floor sideways and settles a wide room. Turned so the cells run toward the far wall, it draws the eye deeper into a narrow one. Either way, leave bare floor on all four sides so the square registers as a square, and center it on a table, a seating group, or a bed. That is one way to place it; the rug is as content off-center, under a desk, or filling a small room edge to edge.

Hand-knotting lets the grid keep its hand. Each knot is tied one at a time, so where a line wavers in the drawing it wavers in the wool, and the tight, low pile fixes it there. No two squares knot up quite alike, which suits a design drawn that way.
