High-pile wool is sculpted into layered ridges, giving the long form a textured depth that shifts with light and shadow. In tan, brown, or custom colors, the shag surface creates a bold organic statement for narrow spaces.

Construction: Hand-knotted shag

Material: 100% New Zealand wool

Dimensions: Standard sizes available online, with fully custom sizes on request

Pile Height: 1"

Origin: Handmade in Bhadohi, India — a region renowned for fine carpet weaving

New Zealand wool is naturally stain-resistant and springs back underfoot — footprints and furniture marks lift rather than settling in. It also takes dye deeply, which is what gives the colors their depth. Some initial shedding is normal and settles within the first few weeks. Why New Zealand wool →

Care: Shedding is normal and will lessen with use. Vacuum regularly on a high-pile setting. Clip loose ends with scissors (do not pull). Rotate periodically for even wear. Blot spills immediately with a clean, white cloth (do not rub). Professional cleaning recommended.

See our rug care guide for more tips.

Sizing an Abstract Runner Rug for a Hallway

Choosing an abstract rug as a runner is mostly a question of length and clearance. Rolling Tides works best when it leaves a few inches of floor on either side of a hallway, letting the irregular, tide-like edge breathe rather than crowding the baseboards. In a kitchen, run it along the working side of an island; in an entry, let the front loops greet the door. Because the design grows as one continuous form, a longer run simply extends the tidal ridges without breaking the pattern, and the warm rust and terracotta carry the eye down the full length of the run.

The shag construction is what makes a runner this inviting underfoot. Tied knot by knot in Bhadohi, the New Zealand wool is built up to an extended 1.5 inch pile, a long, soft, cushioned surface that softens every footstep along a well-used path, something a flat runner cannot offer. The deep pile also absorbs sound in a hallway, settling a corridor that hard floors tend to echo.
