Gridline is a geometric rug drawn the way a grid is ruled by hand: black lines cross a solid wool ground, wandering a little as they go, thickening and thinning along their length, so the cells come out slightly different from one another and the whole surface keeps the look of a sketch. The grid sits on a green or rust ground, the black holding its weight against either. Designed in New York and hand-knotted in Bhadohi, India. It is made from 100% New Zealand wool with a 0.5 inch pile, dense and low, so each line keeps its drawn edge underfoot and the surface stays firm where chairs and feet pass. Made to order in any size and any color, with 55 colors curated for online customization and more than 3,000 available through the studio, so it can sit under a seating group, run beneath a dining table, or cover a bedroom floor. Production takes 5 to 6 weeks, and shipping is free worldwide, duties included.

Construction: Hand-knotted

Material: 100% New Zealand wool

Dimensions: Standard sizes available online, with fully custom sizes on request

Pile Height: 0.5"

Origin: Handmade in Bhadohi, India — a region renowned for fine carpet weaving

New Zealand wool is naturally stain-resistant and springs back underfoot — footprints and furniture marks lift rather than settling in. It also takes dye deeply, which is what gives the colors their depth. Some initial shedding is normal and settles within the first few weeks. Why New Zealand wool →

Care: Shedding is normal and will lessen with use. Vacuum regularly on a high-pile setting. Clip loose ends with scissors (do not pull). Rotate periodically for even wear. Blot spills immediately with a clean, white cloth (do not rub). Professional cleaning recommended.

See our rug care guide for more tips.

Shipping: Knotted rugs are handmade to order and typically ship within 5–6 weeks. Once dispatched, delivery takes 3–5 business days via DHL Express. We offer complimentary worldwide shipping on all rugs.

Returns: Rugs may be returned within 15 days of delivery with a 15% restocking fee. Custom rugs are final sale, except in cases of shipping damage. Read our return policy for full details.

Made the Long Way

Your rug doesn’t exist yet. It starts when you order: master artisans spin the wool, dye it to your color, then knot it by hand, row by row.

Our Picks for You

Line Weight in a Hand-Drawn Geometric Rug

A geometric rug with hand-drawn lines behaves differently at two distances. From across a room, Gridline reads as a plain grid rug, dark lines on a single ground, doing the ordering job any grid does. Step closer and the lines show their making: one swells for a few inches, another slips off true, a cell runs a touch wider than its neighbor. That second reading keeps the surface alive next to furniture with hard edges. A leather sofa, a steel-framed table, or a run of flat cabinet fronts supply the straight lines, and the rug supplies the ones that breathe. It sits just as well beside softer pieces, where the grid lends a little structure.

The waver survives because the rug is hand-knotted. Artisans in Bhadohi tie each knot by hand, row by row, so the black yarn can thicken or drift wherever the drawing did. The dense, low pile then holds every edge in place for years of use, and the rug can be finished with or without fringe.
