Anchoring a Room with a Round Checkered Rug
A round rug works where a rectangle would feel rigid: under a circular dining table, beneath a reading chair, or centered in an entry to greet the room. A checkered rug in the round is an unexpected pairing, the grid of squares held inside a soft curve, and a tonal burgundy version brings warmth to the middle of a space without sharp corners to interrupt the flow. The squares nearest the rim crop into the curve, which softens the whole pattern and lets it sit naturally alongside rounded furniture and rooms built on curves rather than corners. Center it under a pedestal table with enough margin for chairs to slide back, or float it beneath a chair to give a corner its own footprint.
Hand-tufting makes the curved edge clean. Working from the back of a stretched canvas, master artisans in Bhadohi set New Zealand wool through the foundation by hand, then shear the round to an even, cushioned pile that keeps the tonal squares crisp right up to the rounded border.
