A geometric rug earns its keep through repetition, and Temple Steps leans into that. The stacked bars carry the eye upward in even beats, which lends a room a sense of order without the strictness of a grid or a stripe. Because the edges are scalloped rather than straight, the geometry stays soft, so it settles easily against rounded furniture, a low sofa, or the curve of an arched doorway. Set it where the full climb of bars can be read end to end, under a coffee table or running the length of a bed, so the terraced rhythm registers.
Hand-tufting is what gives the bands their relief. Artisans in Bhadohi set New Zealand wool through a backing by hand, then shear and carve the surface so each bar holds its own depth and texture against its neighbor. That dimensional quality is hard to reach in a flat weave, which is why the technique suits a design built on layered, climbing forms.
