Material and Make

New Zealand wool, dyed to your palette.

Hand-tufted rugs are made by working yarn through a stretched canvas, then shearing and sculpting the pile by hand. The result is a dense, soft surface with clean edges to every shape, and the freedom to carve texture into the design.

Orchard is hand-tufted to order in Jubi’s Bhadohi studio. Its 100% New Zealand wool is dyed to the palette you choose, then the finished rug is bound and checked by hand before it ships.

Geometric Rug Pattern Scale: More Bricks, Same Border

A brick pattern tells you what size it is. Orchard's small staggered bricks hold their dimensions whatever the rug's, so a 4 by 6 shows a short run of wall and a 10 by 14 shows a long one, each brick the same size in both. The rows multiply to fill the floor; the framing border keeps its width. That makes the design easy to carry through a house: a runner in the hall and a large rug in the living room read as the same wall, not as a small and a large version of each other.

What this means in a room is that a bigger Orchard grows denser, not coarser. Under a dining table the pattern reads as texture beneath the chairs; in an entry it reads as a drawing. Set the four layers in the Jubi Customizer, the ground, bars, blocks, and squares, in custom colors of your own, or keep the Rose starting colorway with its few green bricks slipped in.

Hand-tufting in our Bhadohi studio gives each brick its edge: wool set through the backing by hand and sheared so the blocks sit in low relief against the ground. See more in Geometric Rugs, or browse all Customizable Rugs. Each Orchard is tufted to the dimensions you give it.
