Wool dyed to order for each palette

Material and Make

New Zealand wool, dyed to your palette.

Each knot is tied by hand around the warp, one at a time, then trimmed level. It is the slowest way to make a rug and the most durable: fine detail, a dense pile, and a rug built to outlast the room it was made for.

Solid Color is hand-knotted to order in Jubi’s Bhadohi studio. Its 100% New Zealand wool is dyed to the palette you choose, then the finished rug is bound and checked by hand before it ships.

Custom Colors for a Solid Color Rug, Chosen for the Room

A solid color rug has one job and no cover: the color has to be right for the room. Solid Color Hand-Knotted offers fifteen starting colorways and the online palette beyond them. Begin with what the rug will sit under. A sofa in a strong color wants a rug that steps back, a heathered green beneath rust upholstery, while pale seating can take a deep floor.

Light matters more on a solid. Heather helps: the tonal flecks keep the surface alive as daylight moves, so a green that looks flat on a swatch reads as close tones on the floor. In a dim room, go a step lighter than you think; in a bright one, a step deeper. A runner takes the color down a hall; a round piece makes it a single calm disc.

Hand-knotting gives this solid its depth: in our Bhadohi studio each knot is tied by hand into a dense, low pile, and the wool is blended before knotting, so the heather is in the rug, not on it. See Solid Color Rugs and Hand-Knotted Rugs, or choose another design in Customizable Rugs. Every rug is knotted to the dimensions you enter, in the custom color you choose.
