New Zealand wool, dyed to your palette.

Hand-tufted rugs are made by working yarn through a stretched canvas, then shearing and sculpting the pile by hand. The result is a dense, soft surface with clean edges to every shape, and the freedom to carve texture into the design.

Starburst Checkered is hand-tufted to order in Jubi’s Bhadohi studio. Its 100% New Zealand wool is dyed to the palette you choose, then the finished rug is bound and checked by hand before it ships.

Scaling a Checkered Rug to Your Room in the Jubi Customizer

A checkered rug is a question of proportion: how many squares cross the floor, and how large each one reads from the sofa. In the Jubi Customizer, Starburst Checkered answers that question as you type. Enter the width and length to the inch and the grid re-flows to that footprint, each burst holding the center of its square, so a long living room and a compact bedroom each get a pattern that fits. Switch the outline to round or oval and the checks follow the curve, a softer anchor under a pedestal table or at the foot of a bed.

Color is the second decision, and the design gives you three parts to work with: the two alternating checks and the bursts. Keep the starting Green and Black and recolor only the bursts, or trade the checks for two lighter wools so it reads as a custom color rug for a brighter room. Every choice draws on 55 colors curated for online customization, with more than 3,000 available through the studio.

Hand-tufting keeps the squares crisp at any scale. Artisans set New Zealand wool through the backing by hand and shear the pile flat, leaving each burst in slight relief.
