Wool dyed to order for each palette

Material and Make

New Zealand wool, dyed to your palette.

Hand-tufted rugs are made by working yarn through a stretched canvas, then shearing and sculpting the pile by hand. The result is a dense, soft surface with clean edges to every shape, and the freedom to carve texture into the design.

Temple Steps is hand-tufted to order in Jubi’s Bhadohi studio. Its 100% New Zealand wool is dyed to the palette you choose, then the finished rug is bound and checked by hand before it ships.

Measuring a Room for a Geometric Rug, Down to the Inch

Few rooms match a stock rug size. Temple Steps is specified instead: measure the space it should hold, decide how much floor should show around it, and enter the result. In a living room, run the rug so the front legs of the sofa and chairs land on it, leaving an even margin at the walls. In a dining room, allow about two feet beyond the table so chairs pull out without catching the edge. Because the design adds treads rather than lengthening them, the proportion in the photo holds at whatever dimensions you enter.

The stacked outline suits long spaces. As a runner the bars read as a staircase laid flat, and the dips in the edge give a hallway a rhythm a straight-sided runner cannot. Choose the palette in the Jubi Customizer, where custom colors set the mood of the stack, from high contrast to tones that sit close together.

Hand-tufting gives the bars their rounded seams. In our Bhadohi studio the New Zealand wool is set through a backing by hand, then sheared and carved so each tread sits as its own soft form against the next.
