Wool dyed to order for each palette

Material and Make

New Zealand wool, dyed to your palette.

Hand-tufted rugs are made by working yarn through a stretched canvas, then shearing and sculpting the pile by hand. The result is a dense, soft surface with clean edges to every shape, and the freedom to carve texture into the design.

Tiers is hand-tufted to order in Jubi’s Bhadohi studio. Its 100% New Zealand wool is dyed to the palette you choose, then the finished rug is bound and checked by hand before it ships.

Choosing Custom Colors for an Ombre Rug, Tier by Tier

An ombre rug is a near-solid, five close colors instead of one, so the choice is less about a single shade than a direction. Tiers makes that direction visible. Decide first where the darkest band should sit: at the foot of a bed, the deep tier grounds the frame while the pale tiers run toward the window; under a dining table, the center bands take the weight.

Then pick the run. A warm run, amber down to brick, suits wood floors and low afternoon light. A cool run, ice blue to deep green, settles a bright white room. One hue in five steps behaves like a solid with a shadow in it. Hold one tier close to the wall color and let the others move away, and the rug sits in the room, not on it.

Hand-tufting carves each band as its own step, so the gradient has a surface, not only a color. In our Bhadohi studio the wool is set by hand through the foundation, then cut along every curve. See Round Rugs, Square Rugs, and Runner Rugs, or choose another design in Customizable Rugs. Tiers is tufted to the dimensions you enter, in custom colors you set band by band.
