More Styles

Boxstep is a plaid wool rug that lays a small, even grid across the floor, squares roughly a foot across repeating edge to edge so the whole surface reads as steady rhythm rather than a single focal point. Each square is outlined in a fine double line, one stitched run beside one solid run, set in pale cream against a deep forest green ground. The pile is flat and low, so the geometry stays crisp underfoot. Designed in New York and hand-knotted in Bhadohi, India, it is made from durable New Zealand wool with a 0.5 inch pile that holds the grid's fine detail knot by knot. Made to order in any size, including oversized, and any of over 1,200 wool colors. Each piece is ready in 5 to 6 weeks and ships free worldwide, duties included. Also available in a bold grid version

Construction: Hand-knotted

Material: 100% New Zealand wool

Dimensions: Standard sizes available online, with fully custom sizes on request

Pile Height: 0.5"

Origin: Handmade in Bhadohi, India — a region renowned for fine carpet weaving

Care Instructions: Shedding is normal and will lessen with use. Vacuum regularly on a high-pile setting. Clip loose ends with scissors (do not pull). Rotate periodically for even wear. Blot spills immediately with a clean, white cloth (do not rub). Professional cleaning recommended.

Every Jubi rug is made from 100% New Zealand wool — chosen for its long staple fibers, natural softness, and durability. Its natural lanolin provides inherent stain resistance, and its ability to take dye produces rich, lasting color.

Some initial shedding is normal with natural wool and typically settles within the first few weeks of regular use.

What Makes Boxstep a Modern Plaid Rug

A plaid rug usually means tartan, but Boxstep arrives at the same grounded feeling through pure geometry. Instead of crossing colored bands, it repeats a single square in a fine double-line grid, small and close-set, roughly one square per foot, so the pattern covers the floor in an even, all-over rhythm. That regularity is what gives it the reassuring, orderly quality people want from plaid, while the restrained palette of chocolate brown and cream keeps it firmly modern rather than rustic. The small scale suits rooms where you want structure underfoot without a loud focal point: a study, a bedroom, a home office, or a dining area where chairs move across it daily and the repeating grid hides the shuffle. Because the pattern reads the same everywhere, it is forgiving to place and easy to build a scheme around. Hand-knotting is what makes the fine lines possible. Each knot is tied by hand on the loom, so the double lines stay sharp and the firm low pile wears evenly for years of use. Explore more in our Plaid Rugs and Hand-Knotted Rugs collections.
