The runner narrows Black White Big Checkered into a checkered rug shaped as a long, single column of squares, black alternating with soft ivory straight down the strip, so the oversized check becomes a clean graphic path. A runner solves the spaces a wide rug cannot, a hallway, a galley kitchen, the length of a bed, and the high-contrast grid gives those long, often overlooked runs a real sense of order. Designed in New York and hand-tufted in Bhadohi, India, it is made from 100% New Zealand wool with a 0.75 inch pile that gives the black and ivory blocks a plush, slightly carved surface that holds up to daily foot traffic. The two-tone palette stays front and center, crisp black against ivory the full length of the strip, and the runner is made to order in any size, so you can match the length to the corridor or kitchen it runs through. Each piece is ready in 2 to 3 weeks and ships free worldwide, duties included.

New Zealand wool is naturally stain-resistant and springs back underfoot — footprints and furniture marks lift rather than settling in. It also takes dye deeply, which is what gives the colors their depth. Some initial shedding is normal and settles within the first few weeks. Why New Zealand wool →

Care: Shedding is normal and will lessen over time. Vacuum regularly with suction only (brushless head, no beater bar). If loose ends appear, clip with scissors (do not pull). Rotate periodically for even wear. Blot spills with a clean, white cloth (do not rub). Professional cleaning only. See our rug care guide for more tips.

Shipping: Tufted rugs are handmade to order and typically take 2–3 weeks to produce and dispatch. Once shipped, delivery takes 3–5 business days via DHL Express. We offer complimentary worldwide shipping on all rugs.

Returns: Rugs may be returned within 15 days of delivery. A restocking fee may apply. Read our return policy for full details.

Our Picks for You

Placing a Checkered Runner in a Hallway or Kitchen

Narrow spaces are where a checkered runner shows what it can do, and a standard rug cannot follow it there. In a hallway, leave a few inches of floor on each side so the strip looks intentional rather than wall-to-wall, and let the oversized black and ivory squares carry the eye the length of the run. In a galley kitchen, a runner softens a hard floor underfoot at the counter, the high-contrast grid reading as a graphic anchor against cabinets and tile. At the foot of a bed or along a bench, it adds a confident line without crowding the room. The trick is length: a runner should stop a foot or so short of the end of the run so the floor frames it, and the oversized squares are forgiving here, since the grid stays legible whether the strip is short or stretches the full corridor.

Hand-tufting suits a runner because it stands up to repeated traffic. Artisans in Bhadohi set New Zealand wool by hand and shear the pile so each square stays crisp down the length of the strip, cushioned but durable.
