Wool dyed to order for each palette

Material and Make

New Zealand wool, dyed to your palette.

Hand-tufted rugs are made by working yarn through a stretched canvas, then shearing and sculpting the pile by hand. The result is a dense, soft surface with clean edges to every shape, and the freedom to carve texture into the design.

Masonry is hand-tufted to order in Jubi’s Bhadohi studio. Its 100% New Zealand wool is dyed to the palette you choose, then the finished rug is bound and checked by hand before it ships.

Sizing a Geometric Rug to the Inch

A grid is the most honest test of a rug's dimensions, because every square shows whether the proportion holds. Masonry passes by re-flowing: enter the room's measurements and the courses add tiles rather than enlarge them, so the square you see in a 5 by 8 is the same square in a 12 by 15. Measure the seating group first. Under a sofa and chairs, bring the rug far enough that the front legs sit on it with a course to spare; under a dining table, allow about two feet beyond the edge so a pulled-out chair stays on the pile.

Shape follows the same logic. Rectangle, square, runner, round, oval, arch, and corner are all built in, and in each the courses run to the outline. Choose the palette in the Jubi Customizer, with custom colors for the ground and the two families of tiles, close in value to read as texture or far apart to read as pattern.

Hand-tufting lifts the squares. In our Bhadohi studio the New Zealand wool is set through the backing by hand, then sheared and carved so each tile stands above the recessed grid, as brick stands proud of mortar.
