Wool dyed to order for each palette

Material and Make

New Zealand wool, dyed to your palette.

Each knot is tied by hand around the warp, then the pile is left long and combed rather than sheared close. The result is depth and softness underfoot, with the durability of a knotted foundation beneath it.

Maze is hand-knotted to order in Jubi’s Bhadohi studio. Its 100% New Zealand wool is dyed to the palette you choose, then the finished rug is bound and checked by hand before it ships.

Custom Colors for an Art Deco Rug, Line by Line

Maze is a two-color design with a condition attached: the two must carry equal weight, or one becomes the ground and the labyrinth resolves into a drawing on it. That makes the palette choice unusually interesting. Two tones close in value, a plum beside a warm clay, say, keep the puzzle intact and let the rug read as texture from across the room. Push the values apart, a near-black against a pale wool, and the lines sharpen into a graphic that organizes everything placed on it. Either works. What changes is how much the rug asks of the room, and how much it gives back when you look down. In the Jubi Customizer the two custom colors come from the fifty-five online wools, with more than 3,000 through the studio.

Hand-knotting suits a design built on corners. In our Bhadohi studio each knot is tied by hand, one per point of the pattern, so a right angle turns cleanly and holds its edge. The pile is low and dense, which keeps the lines sharp underfoot and under furniture.

Maze belongs with our Art Deco Rugs and Geometric Rugs, and with the other designs in Hand-Knotted Rugs. Choose it from Customizable Rugs and it is knotted to the dimensions you enter, in the two colors you choose.
