Wool dyed to order for each palette

Material and Make

New Zealand wool, dyed to your palette.

Hand-tufted rugs are made by working yarn through a stretched canvas, then shearing and sculpting the pile by hand. The result is a dense, soft surface with clean edges to every shape, and the freedom to carve texture into the design.

Puddle is hand-tufted to order in Jubi’s Bhadohi studio. Its 100% New Zealand wool is dyed to the palette you choose, then the finished rug is bound and checked by hand before it ships.

Choosing Colors for a Near-Solid Scalloped Rug

A near-solid rug asks a different color question from a patterned one. With Puddle there is no motif to carry the room, only four rings of one family stepping from dark to light, so the palette is the design. Start with the field, the largest surface. Hold it against the floor: a field a few shades off the wood reads as a soft pool, while a field from another family, say slate on oak, makes the outline itself the event.

Then set the steps. Keep border, band, line, and field within one family and the rings read as shadow, the rug quietly deepening toward its edge, suited to a bedroom or reading corner. Pull the line out in a contrasting color and the outline is drawn twice, once by the scallop and once by that fine stroke. Custom colors in the Jubi Customizer set all four layers from the Brown starting point.

Hand-tufting in our Bhadohi studio lets a rug take this outline. New Zealand wool is set through a backing by hand, then carved along each ring and cut to the scalloped edge, work a loom-woven rectangle cannot do. See the long version in Runner Rugs, or the full range of Customizable Rugs. Each Puddle is cut and tufted to the dimensions you enter.
