A scalloped runner asks for a little planning, because its rounded ends and concentric rings look best when the whole pattern can breathe. In a hallway, leave a few inches of bare floor on either long side so the rippling edge reads as a deliberate shape rather than wall-to-wall coverage, and choose a length that stops short of the doorways at each end. Zen Garden's rings run the length of the panel, so a longer runner lets the raked lines lead the eye naturally from one room to the next.
Hand-tufting carries the detail at this narrow proportion. Artisans in Bhadohi set New Zealand wool through a stretched foundation by hand, then carve and shear the surface so each band stands proud of the next, which is how the concentric rings hold their definition even in a slim runner format.
