Every Jubi rug is made to order, one at a time. From the first drawing through dyeing, weaving, and finishing, each step follows the specifications of the individual rug.
This is the process, from first sketch to your floor.
New York
It Begins on Paper
Every Jubi rug starts in our New York studio, where sketches, proportion, and color are developed into a finished design. Custom commissions begin the same way: with your space and palette, translated into a rendering before production begins.
Raw Wool
Hand-Spun
New Zealand wool is spun into yarn by hand, giving the fiber the subtle variation and texture that remain visible in the finished rug.
Color
Dyed to Order
Every Jubi rug is dyed to order, whether you choose an existing colorway or create your own. Wool is dyed in small batches for each rug, with more than 3,000 colors available through the studio.
The Color Library
55 colors curated for online customization. More than 3,000 available through the studio.
Bhadohi, India
Woven by Hand
In Bhadohi, each rug is made in the construction the design calls for. It may be hand-knotted on a vertical loom, hand-tufted through stretched canvas, or hand-loomed in woven rows. Each technique has its own structure, texture, and pace.
Four Disciplines
-
Hand-Knotted
Each knot tied by hand around the warp — a dense construction made for long wear.
5–6 weeks in the making
-
Hand-Tufted
Yarn worked through stretched canvas, then sheared and sculpted by hand.
2–3 weeks in the making
-
Hand-Loomed
Yarn woven across the loom in continuous rows for a low, even surface.
5–6 weeks in the making
-
Hand-Woven
Warp and weft interlaced with no pile at all: flat, crisp, and lightweight.
5–6 weeks in the making
The Finish
Finished by Hand
Once the rug comes off the loom or frame, finishing begins. The pile is sheared for an even surface and carved where the design calls for dimension; edges are finished, the rug is washed and dried, and the completed piece is inspected before it leaves the workshop.
