Material and Make

New Zealand wool, dyed to your palette.

Hand-tufted rugs are made by working yarn through a stretched canvas, then shearing and sculpting the pile by hand. The result is a dense, soft surface with clean edges to every shape, and the freedom to carve texture into the design.

Breakline is hand-tufted to order in Jubi’s Bhadohi studio. Its 100% New Zealand wool is dyed to the palette you choose, then the finished rug is bound and checked by hand before it ships.

Pattern Scale in a Geometric Rug: What Grows and What Holds

A geometric rug behaves in one of two ways when its dimensions change. Either the motif grows with the rug, so a larger piece carries bigger shapes, or it holds its size and repeats more often. Breakline does the second. Its loosened checks are drawn at a fixed scale, so a 6 by 9 and a 12 by 15 carry the same block and the same half-step slip between columns. What changes is how much of the field you see at once.

That matters in a room. Small, Breakline reads as a textured panel, two tones shifting under a coffee table. Large, the repeat takes over and the floor becomes a woven surface rather than a picture, so it can sit under a full seating group. Palette follows the same logic: custom colors close in value turn the pattern almost to texture, while strong contrast between pattern and ground brings the checks forward.

Hand-tufting in our Bhadohi studio gives those broken lines their edge. New Zealand wool is set through a backing by hand and sheared level, so pattern and ground meet in one plush surface and the slipped columns read cleanly.
