Material and Make

New Zealand wool, dyed to your palette.

Hand-tufted rugs are made by working yarn through a stretched canvas, then shearing and sculpting the pile by hand. The result is a dense, soft surface with clean edges to every shape, and the freedom to carve texture into the design.

Color Block is hand-tufted to order in Jubi’s Bhadohi studio. Its 100% New Zealand wool is dyed to the palette you choose, then the finished rug is bound and checked by hand before it ships.

Custom Colors for an Abstract Rug, Two Fields at a Time

With only two layers to color, Color Block makes palette choice unusually legible. Set the fields close in value, a warm stone above a deeper taupe, and the seam becomes a line you notice slowly, the rug reading almost as a solid until the light shifts. Set them far apart, ivory against near black, and the seam turns into the room's strongest horizontal, something to align with a sofa back or a low shelf. Either way, choose the darker field for the half of the rug that takes the most traffic.

Hand-tufting in our Bhadohi studio suits this design because it leaves the two fields as one continuous surface. New Zealand wool is set through the backing by hand and sheared to a single height, so the change at the seam is color alone, with no ridge or step to catch underfoot. On a design this spare, that evenness is what keeps the line looking drawn rather than joined.

Color Block sits within our Abstract Rugs, and in the Customizable Rugs collection you can set its custom colors layer by layer, then enter the exact dimensions and shape your room calls for. Each one is tufted to the numbers you give us.
