Wool dyed to order for each palette

Material and Make

New Zealand wool, dyed to your palette.

Each knot is tied by hand around the warp, one at a time, then trimmed level. It is the slowest way to make a rug and the most durable: fine detail, a dense pile, and a rug built to outlast the room it was made for.

Gridline is hand-knotted to order in Jubi’s Bhadohi studio. Its 100% New Zealand wool is dyed to the palette you choose, then the finished rug is bound and checked by hand before it ships.

A Hand-Drawn Geometric Rug, Sized to the Inch

A grid is the easiest pattern to size badly, because a half cell at the edge is the first thing the eye finds. Gridline is kinder than most: its cells are already uneven, so a slightly narrower column at the border reads as part of the drawing. Even so, measuring to the inch pays. Decide which edges the rug will meet, the front legs of a sofa, the line of a bed, the walls of a hallway, and enter those distances in the Jubi Customizer. The horizontal cells also give the design a direction: run the long side of the rug with the long side of the room and the grid settles the floor; turn it and the rows climb.

On the palette, the black line is what makes the grid read as drawn, but it is not fixed. Choose custom colors so the drawing sits on the ground the room asks for, with the line a near-black of the same family for a softer version or a true black for the sharpest one.

In our Bhadohi studio each knot is tied by hand, which is what carries the freehand line into wool without straightening it. Gridline belongs with our Geometric Rugs and the other Hand-Knotted Rugs, and it is one of the Customizable Rugs, knotted to your numbers.
