Material and Make

New Zealand wool, dyed to your palette.

Hand-tufted rugs are made by working yarn through a stretched canvas, then shearing and sculpting the pile by hand. The result is a dense, soft surface with clean edges to every shape, and the freedom to carve texture into the design.

Neapolitan is hand-tufted to order in Jubi’s Bhadohi studio. Its 100% New Zealand wool is dyed to the palette you choose, then the finished rug is bound and checked by hand before it ships.

Where the Wave Should Land: Placing an Abstract Rug Around Furniture

Neapolitan has one event on its surface, so the question in the Jubi Customizer is where that event should fall once the furniture is in place. Under a sofa, set the dimensions so the wave clears the front legs and runs across the open floor where it can be seen whole. Under a bed, the band can sit at the foot, a dark line beneath the frame with the lighter field spreading into the room.

The two fields do the balancing. A palette with a pale top and a deeper bottom weights the rug toward one wall, useful when a room needs its center pulled toward a window or a fireplace; tone on tone lets the band carry everything. With custom colors for each field you can pick the hue the room already has and let the wave be the only new note.

Hand-tufting keeps the join clean. In our Bhadohi studio each color is set through the backing by hand in New Zealand wool and the pile sheared to one height, so the wave reads as a change of color rather than a step. See the wider Abstract Rugs collection, or compare designs across Customizable Rugs. Neapolitan is tufted to the dimensions you enter, wave and all.
