Material and Make

New Zealand wool, dyed to your palette.

Hand-tufted rugs are made by working yarn through a stretched canvas, then shearing and sculpting the pile by hand. The result is a dense, soft surface with clean edges to every shape, and the freedom to carve texture into the design.

Organic Fusion Abstract is hand-tufted to order in Jubi’s Bhadohi studio. Its 100% New Zealand wool is dyed to the palette you choose, then the finished rug is bound and checked by hand before it ships.

Choosing Colors for an Abstract Rug: Light, Floor, Walls

An abstract rug with only two layers puts the whole decision on contrast, and Organic Fusion is a clear case. The base and the shapes trade places at the center line, so you will see each color as both figure and ground. Start with the light. A north-facing room cools every wool a step, so a warm base holds up better there, while a sun-filled room can carry a deep ground.

Then look at the floor and walls. On pale oak, a dark base gives the rug an edge the room can see; on a dark stained floor, a pale base lifts the shapes off the ground. Walls set the second color: choose a shape color a few steps from the paint, so the forms stay legible. In a runner the silhouettes stack along the length and the split reads as a pause midway.

Hand-tufting suits edges this loose. In our Bhadohi studio each shape is set through the foundation by hand, then carved along its outline so the two colors meet cleanly. See its neighbors in Abstract Rugs, the hallway version in Runner Rugs, or choose another design in Customizable Rugs. Organic Fusion is made to the dimensions you enter, in the custom colors you choose.
