Wool dyed to order for each palette

Material and Make

New Zealand wool, dyed to your palette.

Hand-tufted rugs are made by working yarn through a stretched canvas, then shearing and sculpting the pile by hand. The result is a dense, soft surface with clean edges to every shape, and the freedom to carve texture into the design.

Relay is hand-tufted to order in Jubi’s Bhadohi studio. Its 100% New Zealand wool is dyed to the palette you choose, then the finished rug is bound and checked by hand before it ships.

Custom Colors for a Striped Rug, Layer by Layer

Relay has two layers, the ground and the stripe, which makes it the simplest palette exercise in the collection and one of the most revealing. The ground is the color you live with; the stripe is the one you notice. Set them close in value, say oat and camel, and the pinstripes dissolve into texture, a rug that reads as a warm solid until you look. Set them far apart, cream and brown as in the Brown starting colorway, and the lines sharpen into a rhythm that organizes the whole floor.

In the Jubi Customizer the two layers take custom colors from the 55 curated for online customization, so you can test one tone against the other before anything is made. Pick the ground from the room's largest surface, floor or wall, then pick the stripe from something smaller you want repeated: a lamp base, a frame, the piping on a sofa.

Hand-tufting in our Bhadohi studio keeps a pinstripe this fine from blurring: the wool is set by hand along each line and sheared level, so the edges stay crisp in a plush pile.
