Material and Make

New Zealand wool, dyed to your palette.

Hand-tufted rugs are made by working yarn through a stretched canvas, then shearing and sculpting the pile by hand. The result is a dense, soft surface with clean edges to every shape, and the freedom to carve texture into the design.

Scallop Oval is hand-tufted to order in Jubi’s Bhadohi studio. Its 100% New Zealand wool is dyed to the palette you choose, then the finished rug is bound and checked by hand before it ships.

Customizing a Scalloped Rug in an Oval Frame

Building your own scalloped rug in an oval comes down to the relationship between two tones, the calm center and the rippling border that holds it. The oval Scallop wraps its wavy edge all the way around, so a soft, low-contrast pairing reads serene and enveloping, while a bolder center against a quieter frame makes the shape pop. Picture the rug under the furniture it will live with, an oval or round table, the foot of a bed, then choose the center to set the mood and the border to frame it.

Hand-tufting is what allows the made-to-order freedom. Artisans set New Zealand wool through a stretched canvas by hand and carve the wavy border afterward, so the rippling edge can be sized and colored to your specification and still stand in clean relief. Because the border is shaped rather than printed, even a custom color pairing keeps the soft, dimensional depth that makes the scallop read.
