Material and Make

New Zealand wool, dyed to your palette.

Hand-tufted rugs are made by working yarn through a stretched canvas, then shearing and sculpting the pile by hand. The result is a dense, soft surface with clean edges to every shape, and the freedom to carve texture into the design.

Sculpted Edge is hand-tufted to order in Jubi’s Bhadohi studio. Its 100% New Zealand wool is dyed to the palette you choose, then the finished rug is bound and checked by hand before it ships.

Sizing a Scalloped Rug to the Inch

A scalloped outline changes how a rug meets a room. With Sculpted Edge the edge is the design, so the measurement that matters is not the wall but the furniture: let the bubbled sides show past a sofa or a bed frame by a foot and the silhouette stays legible instead of disappearing under upholstery. Enter the exact width and length in the Jubi Customizer and the design re-counts its scallops to fit, so a narrow hallway piece in the Runner Rugs proportion reads as the same rug as a living-room size, only with fewer curves across and more rows along.

Hand-tufting is what lets the outline bubble. In our Bhadohi studio the wool is set through the backing by hand and then sheared and carved, so the wavy bands can be cut into shallow channels and the edge can follow a curve rather than a straight line. The palette is yours as well: choose custom colors for the field and the stripes, keep them close for a tonal cloud or set them far apart for a graphic one.

Sculpted Edge is one of the designs in Customizable Rugs, and the quickest way to see whether a scalloped rug suits a room is to put your own numbers into it. Every one is made to the dimensions you enter.
