Wool dyed to order for each palette

Material and Make

New Zealand wool, dyed to your palette.

Hand-tufted rugs are made by working yarn through a stretched canvas, then shearing and sculpting the pile by hand. The result is a dense, soft surface with clean edges to every shape, and the freedom to carve texture into the design.

Strata is hand-tufted to order in Jubi’s Bhadohi studio. Its 100% New Zealand wool is dyed to the palette you choose, then the finished rug is bound and checked by hand before it ships.

How a Textured Wool Rug Carries a Neutral Room

A room built on neutrals depends on surface. With little color to lean on, the eye looks for variation in grain, weave, and tone, and a textured wool rug supplies it across the largest plane in the room. Oat Strata does this with two tones: a warm oat ground and strokes of soft gray running through it. Because it holds both a warm and a cool note, it sits comfortably between materials that often pull apart, such as oak and concrete, brass and steel, cream upholstery and gray stone.

The strokes all run one way, which gives the floor a direction, a soft line for a sofa, a bed, or a long table to sit along. The broken pattern is also forgiving day to day, absorbing footprints and the odd mark into the surface.

Hand-tufting gives the rug its body. Artisans in Bhadohi set New Zealand wool through a stretched foundation by hand, then shear it to an even 0.75 inch pile, dense and soft underfoot.
