The Sketchbook
Behind The Design
A straight stripe sits still, and we wanted one that moves. So the lines of Crescent Stripe bow into long arcs, each echoing the curve before it, until the whole surface rolls like a current passing through.
The Craft

Will my rug look exactly like the photos?
Every rug is handmade, so slight variations in color and texture are natural. Screen settings can also affect how colors appear. Order a sample to see the color and feel the wool in your space.
A striped rug does more than fill a floor: it sets a direction. Where straight stripes lengthen a room and lead the eye along a single line, the arcing bands of Crescent Stripe curve that motion, pulling the eye in a soft sweep rather than a hard run. That makes it a natural fit for open, modern spaces where you want energy without clutter, paired with low seating and rounded forms that echo the curves. Run it lengthwise in an entry to draw guests inward, or float it under a coffee table so the arcs frame the seating from every side.
Hand-tufting is what lets the stripes hold their shape. Working from the back of a stretched canvas, artisans in Bhadohi set New Zealand wool through the foundation by hand, then shear and carve the surface so each band keeps a clean, defined edge against the ground. That crisp carving is hard to achieve in a flat weave, which is why the technique suits a design built on precise, curving lines.
