Squared into a rectangle, Rolling Tides is an abstract rug that carries its topographic contour lines inside clean, straight edges, so the freeform ripples that usually wander an organic outline now play against a crisp rectangular frame. The nested bands still rise and fall in carved relief, catching the light and shifting as you cross the room, while the familiar footprint makes this the easiest version to place. A rectangle anchors a living room, a bedroom, or a dining area squarely, sitting under furniture the way a room is usually laid out. Designed in New York and hand-tufted in Bhadohi, India, it is made from plush 100% New Zealand wool with a 0.75 inch pile that gives each line its sculpted, dimensional depth. It comes in blue, lavender, pink, rust, sage, and tan, and is made to order in any size, including oversized, and over 1,200 wool colors. Each piece is ready in 2 to 3 weeks and ships free worldwide, duties included.

Placing a Rectangular Abstract Rug

A rectangular abstract rug is the most straightforward shape to work into a room, which is what makes this version of Rolling Tides so easy to live with. Where the organic original floats and the round and square anchor a centered arrangement, the rectangle follows the way most rooms are already built, sitting squarely under a sofa, a bed, or a dining table. Size it so the front legs of your seating rest on the pile in a living room, or let it run the length of a bed with an even margin on either side. The carved contour lines keep the rectangle from reading as a plain block, giving a familiar footprint real movement and depth. Hand-tufting builds that relief by hand: master artisans in Bhadohi set New Zealand wool through a stretched canvas, then shear and carve each band so the topographic lines stand above the ground, a sculpted effect a flat weave cannot hold. Because the edges are straight, this version also aligns and layers cleanly against walls and other rectangular rugs, where the organic shape prefers to float on its own. See more in our Abstract Rugs collection, browse other shapes in Rectangular Rugs, or explore the full Hand-Tufted Rugs range. Every Jubi rug is made to order, so this rectangle can be woven in the size and palette your room calls for.
