A hallway is the one part of a house you only ever see in motion, which is what makes an olive green runner rug worth getting right. Care: Shedding is normal and will lessen with use. Vacuum regularly on a high-pile setting. Clip loose ends with scissors (do not pull). Rotate periodically for even wear. Blot spills immediately with a clean, white cloth (do not rub). Professional cleaning recommended.

Measuring a Hallway for a Wool Runner

A wool runner should leave a margin of bare floor on each side, roughly four to six inches, so the hall reads as wider than the rug rather than wall to wall carpet. Length is the harder call. A runner that stops well short of the end of a corridor makes the space look truncated, so measure the full run and subtract enough to clear the doorways at either end and any door that swings inward. That number is rarely a size sold off a shelf, which is the argument for weaving one to it.

Width follows the furniture and the doors. Two feet suits a tight corridor, two and a half handles a hall with doors opening off it, and three feet reads generously in a wide passage or alongside a kitchen island.

Hand-knotting earns its place in a hallway. Each knot is tied by hand onto the warp in Bhadohi, producing a low, dense pile that takes concentrated foot traffic without crushing the way a deeper pile would.
