In Chestnut, Haven turns russet, a warm brown wool rug with a red undertone that keeps the field from reading as plain earth. Worked as a heathered melange, the surface blends closely related browns so the color shifts between cinnamon and a deeper, cooler bark tone as light moves across it. The low, even pile holds that variation without breaking it into shadow. It is a mid-tone brown with enough red to stay warm in a north-facing room, settling easily against cream plaster, pale oak, and unbleached linen, and holding its ground beside black metal or deep green. Designed in New York and hand-loomed in Bhadohi, India, Haven is made from 100% New Zealand wool with a 0.65 inch pile that keeps the texture smooth and refined underfoot. The Chestnut colorway is woven to order in the dimensions your room calls for. The ends are finished with or without a stitched binding: a narrow ivory band crossed by a running stitch in the rug's own color. Every piece is ready in 6 to 7 weeks and ships free worldwide, duties included.

Construction: Hand-loomed

Material: 100% New Zealand wool

Dimensions: Standard sizes available online, with fully custom sizes on request

Pile Height: 0.65"

Origin: Handmade in Bhadohi, India — a region renowned for fine carpet weaving

New Zealand wool is naturally stain-resistant and springs back underfoot — footprints and furniture marks lift rather than settling in. It also takes dye deeply, which is what gives the colors their depth. Some initial shedding is normal and settles within the first few weeks. Why New Zealand wool →

Care: Shedding is normal and will lessen with use. Vacuum regularly on a high-pile setting. Clip loose ends with scissors (do not pull). Rotate periodically for even wear. Blot spills immediately with a clean, white cloth (do not rub). Professional cleaning recommended.

See our rug care guide for more tips.

Our Picks for You

Styling a Mid-Tone Brown Neutral Rug

A mid-tone brown like Chestnut is among the most adaptable neutral rug shades there is, warm enough to soften a room yet restrained enough to recede when the furniture should lead. Haven's heathered melange keeps it from going flat: the surface moves between related browns, reading as natural texture that grounds a space without darkening it. The red in the tone is what separates it from a plain earth brown, giving it warmth that holds up in low light. It sits comfortably under pale linen and light oak, and just as happily against richer, layered palettes.

Hand-looming is what gives the tone its softness. Woven on a loom by artisans in Bhadohi, the New Zealand wool is set at a low, even pile that stays smooth and refined, letting the blend of browns carry the depth instead of a raised pattern. The finish is understated and built for everyday rooms, the sort of foundation you can layer a more colorful scheme on top of without clashing.
