Blocks of wool fit against one another like set stone, some faces combed into fine ribs, others left smooth, so a tile rug that could have read flat instead holds real depth. The palette stays in one warm register, cream and ivory against terracotta, golden ochre, and a soft blush, and the whole composition turns around a pale rectangle at the center, with two broad curves cutting the corners to keep the grid from locking up. Designed in New York and hand-tufted in Bhadohi, India, it is made from 100% New Zealand wool with a 0.75 inch pile, carved so the ribbed facets stand just off the smooth ones. Made to order in any size and any of over 1,200 wool colors, so the palette can stay earthen or shift toward whatever a room already holds. Each piece is ready in 2 to 3 weeks and ships free worldwide, duties included.

New Zealand wool is naturally stain-resistant and springs back underfoot — footprints and furniture marks lift rather than settling in. It also takes dye deeply, which is what gives the colors their depth. Some initial shedding is normal and settles within the first few weeks. Why New Zealand wool →

Care: Shedding is normal and will lessen over time. Vacuum regularly with the beater bar set to the highest setting. If loose ends appear, clip with scissors (do not pull). Rotate periodically for even wear. Blot spills with a clean, white cloth (do not rub). Professional cleaning only. See our rug care guide for more tips.

Shipping: Tufted rugs are handmade to order and typically take 2–3 weeks to produce and dispatch. Once shipped, delivery takes 3–5 business days via DHL Express. We offer complimentary worldwide shipping on all rugs.

Returns: Rugs may be returned within 15 days of delivery. A restocking fee may apply. Read our return policy for full details.

The Sketchbook

Behind The Design

The rule was no color contrast, only texture. Neutral Mosaic sets ribbed facets against smooth ones and lets the shift in surface do the work color usually does, sculpting depth across one warm, grounded palette.

The Craft

Made the Long Way

Your rug doesn’t exist yet. It starts when you order: master artisans spin the wool, dye it to your color, then tuft and carve it by hand.

Why a Tile Rug Reads as Architecture

A tile rug borrows its logic from masonry rather than from textiles. Instead of a motif repeating across a field, discrete blocks are fitted edge to edge, so the surface reads as something built rather than something printed on.

Neutral Mosaic takes that a step further by giving the blocks two different finishes. Some are combed into fine parallel ribs, others sheared smooth, and the two catch light separately as you cross the room. That is what lets the design hold up in a closely related palette: cream, terracotta, ochre, and blush are near neighbors, and on a flat weave they would soften into one another. Carved, each block keeps its own edge, so the rug stays calm from the doorway and stays interesting from standing height.

Hand-tufting is what makes the two finishes possible. Artisans set New Zealand wool through the foundation by hand, then carve and shear so ribbed and smooth blocks sit at slightly different heights, a relief a loom cannot produce.
