Styling a Chevron Rug in a Modern Room
A chevron rug like Zig Zag earns its keep by adding motion to a space that might otherwise read flat. The sweeping black-and-white ribbon pulls the eye along its path, which makes it a natural anchor under a low coffee table or at the foot of a bed, where the curves can run with the length of the room. Because the palette is graphic and high-contrast, it pairs cleanly with pale walls, light timber, and simple upholstered shapes, letting the rug carry the pattern so nothing competes.
Hand-tufting is what gives the line its body. Working from the back of a stretched canvas, artisans set New Zealand wool through the foundation by hand, then shear and carve the surface so the cream channel sits just proud of the black ground. That carved edge is difficult to hold in a flat weave, which is why the technique suits a design built on a single travelling curve.
