A tile rug like Sunset Mosaic works the way a grid of glazed tiles works on a wall: separate blocks of color read as one composed surface, so the floor feels intentional rather than incidental. The ribbed panels and smooth panels trade places across the field, which keeps the warm earth tones, peach, ochre, brick, and burgundy, from settling into a single flat plane. That structure suits rooms with clean architecture and low, modern furniture, where the rug can supply the color and the pattern can do the visual work.
Hand-tufting is what lets the blocks sit at slightly different depths. Working from the back of a stretched canvas, artisans set New Zealand wool through the foundation by hand, then shear and comb the surface so some panels stand crisp and ribbed while others stay plush and matte. That contrast is hard to achieve in a flat weave, which is why the technique suits a design built on texture as much as color.
