A scalloped runner asks a different question than a rectangular one: where do the curves land. Undula's wavy outline reads best when there is a few inches of floor on either side, so the undulating edge stays visible rather than crowding the baseboards. In a standard hallway, that usually means leaving four to six inches of margin on each long side and a clear gap at each end, letting the rippling form breathe down the length of the space. Because the runner is made to order, the exact length is yours to set, whether it traces a short entry or a long corridor.
Hand-tufting keeps the bands crisp at this narrow proportion. Artisans set New Zealand wool through a stretched foundation by hand, then carve the surface so each scalloped ring holds its line even as the runner extends. That carved relief is what gives the long form its quiet movement underfoot.
