Choosing the Right Size
The most common mistake is going too small. Your rug should be large enough that key furniture sits on it or at least has front legs on it. In a dining room, add two feet to each side of the table. In a bedroom, extend the rug at least 18 to 24 inches beyond the sides and foot of the bed. Not sure which size fits your space? See our size guide for room-by-room recommendations.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I order a custom size?
Yes. Standard sizes are available through our online customizer. For exact dimensions, oversized pieces, or non-standard proportions, contact our studio. There is no limit on size.
How do I know what size rug I need?
Measure your space and the furniture that will sit on the rug. A good rule: the rug should be large enough that your main furniture has at least front legs on it. When in doubt, go bigger.
How do I measure my space for a rug?
Mark the area with painter's tape before ordering. This gives you a visual sense of how the rug will fill the space. Measure from where you want the edges to land, not wall to wall.
What size rug goes under a dining table?
Add at least two feet to each side of the table so chairs stay fully on the rug when pulled out. For a 4'×6' table, you need a minimum 8'×10' rug.
What size rug works best under a king bed?
A 9'×12' is ideal. It extends beyond the sides and foot of the bed so you step onto the rug on either side. An 8'×10' works but leaves less rug visible at the foot.
What size rug works best for a living room?
For most living rooms, an 8'×10' or 9'×12'. All main seating should have at least front legs on the rug. If your sofa floats in the middle of the room, the rug should extend beyond it on all sides.

Standard Rug Sizes: A Quick Reference
Most rooms are served by a handful of standard dimensions. The key is matching the rug size to the furniture arrangement, not just the room dimensions — a rug that fits the room but doesn't relate to the seating or dining group will feel unanchored regardless of its size.
Living room: 8x10 and 9x12 are the most common sizes for a standard living room seating group. In larger rooms, 10x14 provides full coverage. The typical approach is to have the rug extend under the front legs of all seating pieces — or, in larger rooms, fully under all furniture in the group.
Dining room: The rug should extend at least 24 inches beyond the table edge on all sides — enough for chairs to remain on the rug when pulled out. For a standard 6-person dining table, an 8x10 is usually the minimum; a 9x12 is more comfortable.
Bedroom: The most common placements are an 8x10 or 9x12 extending from the foot of the bed, with the rug visible on both sides and the foot of the bed. A 5x8 works under a queen bed if space is limited. Runners on either side of the bed are an alternative.
Entryway and hallway: Runners in 2x8, 2.5x10, and 3x12 are the most common formats. For a wider entry, a 4x6 or 5x8 can work. Every Jubi runner is available in custom lengths.
