This chocolate brown shag rug sits close enough to espresso that it reads nearly black in low light and resolves into warm brown as soon as the sun reaches it. Depth is what keeps it from closing down: the wool is long enough that the tips pick up a thin line of light while the base stays in shadow, so the surface shows its grain and direction instead of sitting as one solid mass. Pale natural fringe at each end is optional, and draws a sharp edge against all that darkness when chosen. Designed in New York and hand-knotted in Bhadohi, India, it is made from 100% New Zealand wool with a deep 1.5 inch pile that is dense and soft underfoot.
