This blue shag rug lands at a clear mid tone, closer to worn denim than to ink, which keeps a strong color feeling open rather than heavy. The pile carries it across a range: light gathers on the tips and lifts toward a soft cornflower, while the wool underneath falls into a deeper, cooler blue, so the field stays lively as you move around it. Natural fringe at each end gives the color a plain edge to stop against. Designed in New York and hand-knotted in Bhadohi, India, it is made from 100% New Zealand wool with a deep 1.5 inch pile that is soft and full underfoot. Made to order in any size, so the blue can ground a whole room or sit under a single chair. Each rug is ready in 5 to 6 weeks and ships free worldwide, duties included.

Construction: Hand-knotted shag

Material: 100% New Zealand wool

Dimensions: Standard sizes available online, with fully custom sizes on request

Pile Height: 1"

Origin: Handmade in Bhadohi, India — a region renowned for fine carpet weaving

New Zealand wool is naturally stain-resistant and springs back underfoot — footprints and furniture marks lift rather than settling in. It also takes dye deeply, which is what gives the colors their depth. Some initial shedding is normal and settles within the first few weeks. Why New Zealand wool →

Care: Shedding is normal and will lessen with use. Vacuum regularly on a high-pile setting. Clip loose ends with scissors (do not pull). Rotate periodically for even wear. Blot spills immediately with a clean, white cloth (do not rub). Professional cleaning recommended.

See our rug care guide for more tips.

Shipping: Knotted shag rugs are handmade to order and typically ship within 5–6 weeks. Once dispatched, delivery takes 3–5 business days via DHL Express. We offer complimentary worldwide shipping on all rugs.

Our Picks for You

How a Mid-Tone Blue Keeps a Room Open

Blue on the floor behaves like distance. The eye reads cool colors as further away, which is why a blue rug tends to make a room feel wider than a warm one of the same value, and why it works so well in spaces that are short on square footage rather than short on light.

A mid tone is the most usable point on that range. It has enough saturation to be a real color rather than a grey, and enough lightness that it does not close a room down the way a deep navy can. It sits easily with white, natural wood and rattan, sharpens against black metal, and takes warm accents like brass and terracotta without any effort.

The depth comes from construction. Artisans in Bhadohi tie each knot by hand and leave the wool long, which uses more material and more time than a short pile and is the reason the color arrives in more than one value.
